Race boat owner to serve as king.

SPRINGFIELD – The 23rd annual Krewe of Wrecks boat parade starts Saturday at 1 p.m. on the Tickfaw River by the Shelly O’Neal Estates 2.

Organizer “Crazy Charlie” Albert calls it the wildest Mardi Gras boat parade in the state.

More than 40 decorated boats are expected to cruise the Tickfaw and Blood Rivers.

John B. Haggin, team owner of the world champion Miss GEICO Racing Team will be the King of Wrecks on Saturday.

The crown will be handed off by last year’s king Ken Warby, currently the world’s fastest man on the water at 317 mph, Albert said.

Participation in the parade is free, but all parade boats must register.

An after party is planned at Blood River Landing with live music by the Blue Meanies and Wayne Toups.

Tickets will cost $10 at the door. The proceeds will benefit Springfield first responders. There will also be free face painting for the kids.
