Miss GEICO Makes Turbine History with Three World Titles in Three Years; World’s most elite offshore team reengineers the expectations of powerboat racing
11.25.08

LAKE WORTH, FL - (Nov. 17, 2008) – As a victorious finish in the Key West World Championship race closes the final chapter of the 2008 Offshore season, the Miss GEICO team and crew reflect on the honor of claiming three world titles in as many years.

“We are humbled by the success this team has seen in the past few seasons,” said John Haggin, owner of the Miss GEICO team, one of his fleet of go-fast boats, all carrying the insurance-industry giant’s moniker and sharing the same penchant for innovation and success. “We decided a while back that there’s only one way to run in these races… to win. And, that’s what we work hard to do every time our boat hits the water. It is not enough to show up. It is not enough to give the fans a great show. We make sure those important pieces happen, and then we kick it up a notch.”

Kicked up a notch is a modest description of the team’s stellar performance throughout the season. With breathtaking turns and record speeds in classic venues such as Sarasota, Destin and Key West, Miss GEICO enjoyed a story book season that will continue their trend at reinventing one of the world’s most extreme sports.

“For decades weekend warriors have been climbing into the cockpits of offshore powerboats to test the limits of both man and machine,” said Miss GEICO Driver, Marc Granet, a racing veteran who earned his stripes in competitive racing in various classes of the offshore circuit. “But, the level of racing we’re able to take on now is truly redefining the whole scope. Fans, racers, associated sponsors and industry – we’re all coming to expect the unexpected. Miss GEICO’s proud of the role we’ve been able to play in charting the future of offshore racing.”

For the Miss GEICO team, the formula for success is a complex combination of simple elements: One part visionary leadership from Owner John Haggin; two-part bold tenacity and expertise from the veteran team of Throttleman Scotty Begovich and Driver Granet and a balance of dedication, excellence and insight from the sport’s most dynamic crew. The outcome: an innovative philosophy of all-inclusive sportsmanship that leads to undeniable, ever-elevating results.

“I’ve been involved in offshore racing for years,” said Begovich, a 10-year veteran on the offshore racing circuit. “The moves we’ve been able to make with Miss GEICO sets a new standard for our sport and it’s really amazing to be a part of the process.”

“We’ll continue to expand on our excellence, gearing up for a strong performance in 2009,” Haggin said.

As the team continues to look ahead to greatness, Haggin’s thoughts at the end of last year’s season are fortified with continuing resonance from this year’s success: “I’m most proud of the camaraderie and success in the team we’ve built. The brotherhood of our Miss GEICO Family and the goodwill we’ve established in our community and the hearts of our fans. Those are the wins that keep us in race.”
